The first few weeks at Olivet Nazarene University are a flurry of fun activities and meaningful ways for students to get connected on campus. Staff, faculty, administrators and upperclassman student leaders have particularly prepared for the arrival of new students with a full schedule of Welcome Weeks activities.
Move-in Weekend
The official move-in day for new resident students is Saturday, August 23, from 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Move-ins continue on Sunday, August 24, noon to 4:00 p.m. During move-in hours, students and their families can pause for a meal in Luddy (the campus dining hall), take a coffee break in Starbucks and visit the newly-redesigned Spirit Store — all of which are located in Ludwig Center. Returning residential students may begin moving in on Saturday, August 23, between 2:00–8:00 p.m.
The formal activities kick off on Sunday, August 24, with the *JumpStart New Student Conference (*indicates required programming). Students and their families will gather in Chalfant Hall on Sunday morning for a worship service at 10:30 a.m. In the afternoon, all first-year students will meet on Ward Field for a *photo at 3:00 p.m. followed by a *Community Expectations meeting in Chalfant Hall at 3:30 p.m.; dinner with their JumpStart Group and student mentors; and *residence hall floor gatherings across campus. The day will cap off with a Party at Rec City event at 7:30 p.m.
Programming continues throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday to help freshmen and transfer students smoothly orient themselves to life at Olivet including *keynote sessions, yearbook photo time slots and a campus passport activity to help students get familiarized with important offices and venues around the University.
Start of the School Year
Classes for undergraduate students begin on Wednesday, August 27. That morning, the entire campus community will gather in Centennial Chapel for corporate worship and an inspirational message. On Thursday morning, University President Gregg Chenoweth Ph.D. will bring the chapel message.
The first two weeks on campus there are nonstop activities and events for students to take part in. The annual Ollies Follies class competition — a three-part event consisting of athletic contests (August 27), wacky games (August 29) and a variety show (September 7) — is a favorite way for students to connect on campus.
These are great days at Olivet! Students, get involved, stay involved and experience Olivet to the fullest. Friends and family, make plans now to visit campus throughout the year.
