The goal of the Transformational Leadership concentration is to transform you personally and professionally. Throughout the track, you will interact with a variety of multidisciplinary representatives to explore best practices. You will develop, test, and evaluate ideas relevant to nursing practice, along with critically examining concepts and theories in relation to leadership.

These skills will help you as you systematize moral, ethical, spiritual, and professional concepts into your sphere of influence to lead change within the healthcare environment. Business skills have been integrated into the curriculum to give you a competitive edge and provide a solid foundation for entry into an advanced nursing practice leadership role. Upon completion of this certificate track, you will have acquired skills to better advocate for others, promote positive change, improve outcomes, and effectively collaborate within the interprofessional team.

Program Features

This track allows you to either complete two business courses from the MBA core and then transfer them towards an MBA degree in the future, or puts you on the path to earn one of the following certificates* in addition to the Post-Master’s Transformational Leadership certificate:

*If students would like to obtain an additional Business certificate, they will need to take additional coursework on top of the Post-Master’s Transformational Leadership track.

A master’s level business course, completed within five years of matriculation at Olivet with a B or higher, may be accepted as a substitute for a comparable core course in programs that permit transfer credit. To submit an official request for transcript review, please review the Transfer of Credits policy and complete this “Request to Transfer Credit”form.

A typical candidate for this track includes a nurse who has completed a master’s degree in nursing and is interested in advancing their nursing leadership skills and business acumen. Candidates are looking to improve their communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork skills, advance their understanding of decision making, healthcare finance, and budgeting. Candidates are also interested in improving both patient and organizational outcomes and desire to create change within the healthcare environment.

While much of the learning takes place online, PMC-TL students will need to complete their practicum hours in an approved state. Please contact your state board of nursing to verify if our program meets their educational requirements.

To be admitted into Olivet Nazarene University’s Post-Master’s Transformational Leadership Certificate Track an applicant must meet these prerequisites:

  • Complete an application.
  • Submit an official transcript from a regionally accredited college or university showing an earned Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.
  • Have attained an MSN GPA of 3.0 or better (4.0 scale).*
  • Submit current, unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license in a geographical jurisdiction of the United State*
  • Submit a signed consent regarding criminal background and drug screening requirements.
  • Submit evidence of having worked as an RN for at least 2,000 hours prior to starting the respective clinical/practicum tracks (TL: NRSG 648).**

Roughly 15-20 hours per week, excluding practicum. Students are required to complete 120 practicum hours within eight weeks, which is approximately 15 hours a week. Assignments will vary throughout this track. You can expect to see discussion boards, devotionals, papers, group work, projects, podcasts, leading a meeting or webinar at your practicum, and even creating videos. This track does not include exams.

In general, all preceptors must have at minimum, an MSN degree with a current and active, unencumbered RN license, working in a full-time executive-level nursing leadership position for at least two years. Approved preceptor titles for this track:

  • Senior Leadership/Management Role
  • Chief Nursing Officer
  • Vice President/Chief Nursing Executive
  • Director of Nursing
  • Senior Vice President
