Olivet’s School of Music Presents Annual Holiday Concerts

‘Tis the season for festive holiday activities, and the School of Music at Olivet Nazarene University will once again present two annual favorites in Centennial Chapel.

On Saturday, November 22, members of the University Orchestra and combined choirs will present Handel’s Messiah. This time-honored oratoria tells the story of Christ in three parts, from birth through life, death to resurrection, and the prophetic second coming of Jesus.

With scriptural texts from the King James Version of the Bible poetically set to classical melodies, this musical celebration sets the tone for audiences to remember the real reason for the holiday season.

2025 Messiah soloists include: Ana Quezada, soprano; Eliyah White, soprano; guest artist, Emily Amesquita, mezzo-soprano; faculty artist, Dr. Neal Woodruff ’91, tenor; and Cole Morris, bass.

Tickets are not required for this free event.

Sounds of the Season will be presented on Friday, December 5, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 6, at 2:00 p.m. This cherished annual concert event showcases the talents of more than 350 student musicians.

The first half of the concert will highlight Olivet ensembles including Orpheus Choir, Proclamation Gospel Choir, Concert Singers, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, University Orchestra, Steel Drums and more, supplemented by a special group of standout student singers and visually enhanced with select performances by members of ONU Dance and ONU Theatre. After intermission, songs will feature the collective efforts of the entire School of Music.

Lauren Beatty ’13 is a freelance writer, author, editor, artist and an adjunct professor in the Department of Communication at Olivet. She earned a Master of Arts degree in cross-cultural and sustainable business management from the American University of Paris in 2014. Her thesis explored the evolution of socially responsible business practices in America.
