The 2020 autumn issue of Olivet The Magazine, takes a broad look at community at Olivet Nazarene University. The issue also includes The Parent Guide – information for prospective students and families on what to expect and how to plan for college life.

In his opening letter, University President Dr. John C. Bowling addresses the fact that college-age students crave a sense of belonging. He encourages readers that Olivet’s mission directly focuses on fostering a safe and welcoming environment in which students can thrive.

The main feature unpacks the University’s unofficial tagline: We Believe. You Belong Here. Through the testimonies of students, faculty and staff, the article explains what community at Olivet looks like and why we believe this is an amazing place for students to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

In the “First Person” article, Olivet Director of Athletics Mike Conway ’83 reflects on the impact of his Olivet education and athletic experiences on his outstanding career in coaching. “Raving fans” Chris ’93 and Jennifer (Hasselbring) Shride ’91, explain why they value their Olivet legacy and how they continue to stay involved with the University.

As part of the “With Honors,” series, junior Emily Ziemba, talks about how her participation in the University Honors Program has given her a well-rounded experience as a student. The “Higher Purpose” article catches up with eight outstanding young alumni who have continued their higher education at various universities after completing meaningful undergraduate degrees at Olivet.

The 65-page issue also highlights the campus news stories of students, faculty and alumni and provides information about understanding the financial aid timeline with helpful tips from the Admissions team.
