The process of figuring out what you want to do when you grow up can be daunting. There can be a lot of pressure to commit to a specific career path, particularly at a young age. However, as individuals gain academic, work and general life experiences, many people find that they develop the ability to articulate a range of jobs and industries that best suit their talents, skills and professional aspirations.

Olivet Nazarene University offers a robust listing of graduate degrees for adult learners who are ready to dive in deeper to a distinct area of study — including the Doctor of Education in Ethical Leadership (Ed.D.) program.

Earning an Ed.D. from Olivet Nazarene University is a life-changing experience that will position you well to advance your career — and equip you to find purpose in all aspects of your life. Well-equipped and principled leaders are needed in every industry, and this online doctoral degree will open doors of opportunity that you didn’t even know were possible.

The cohort-based model of semi-synchronous coursework connects you with like-minded students who are also passionate about applying the coursework theories and best practices to real-life work situations across a spectrum of industries. Although a doctorate of education in ethical leadership is often confused with being only for teachers, it is applicable for all career professionals. Olivet’s program now offers tracks related to business, education, healthcare, law enforcement and ministry.

In this program, a team of distinguished full-time faculty guides students through a rich curriculum that can be completed in as few as 32-months. Olivet’s Ed.D. program uses content area experts as chairs who teach the three interwoven dissertation courses. This allows students to engage in meaningful discussions of ethics, leadership, culture, strategy and change management, and then apply the knowledge to their unique area of interest. The content-expert mentorship, coupled with your specific dissertation content, is recognized on the final transcript if the dissertation content falls into a category of business, education, healthcare, law enforcement or ministry.

“At Olivet, we take a personalized approach to every dissertation,” says Dr. Kelly S. Brown, director of Olivet’s Ed.D. program. “I carefully assemble a dissertation team tailored to each student’s research focus, ensuring they have the right mentors to guide them. Our goal is to provide the expertise, support and collaboration needed to make their work effective and meaningful.”

Read below for a preview of just a few of the Ed.D. course offerings you will take as you consider the academic track paths that will enhance your career goals. Note: all students take all of the following listed courses, regardless of their chosen track.

Additionally, candidates engage in global citizenship through a cultural immersion experience.

COVENANT LEADERSHIP (EDUC-910) — The Christian faith suggests that the message of the Gospel propels us to go beyond the “norm” in leadership activity. Candidates will demonstrate they are capable of exercising the “best” of both contractual as well as covenant leadership.
