February 2, 2023 Academics

Professor Scott Ragan will become the new chair for the Department of Engineering in Olivet Nazarene University’s Martin D. Walker School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at the conclusion of the 2022–2023 school year. He will succeed Dr. Joseph Schroeder, who served as department chair from 2016 to 2023 following an earlier tenure as interim chair.

“With the appointment of Scott Ragan, we at ONU continue our commitment to having uniquely gifted Christian leaders in place for our academic programs,” said Dr. Kent Olney, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “Professor Ragan’s real world engineering experience brings an in-depth perspective to his new role at ONU. Students and faculty are blessed to have him on board.”

Ragan joined the ONU faculty in 2019 after an extensive professional career. He has been a licensed engineer in 18 different states and brings a wealth of industrial experience to his position. His BS degree in civil engineering and MS degree in structural engineering are from the University of Tennessee. He has completed his PhD work in civil engineering from the University of Arkansas and is currently waiting for advisor approval to complete his degree. He and his wife, Jeni, are the parents of four children, including two ONU students and one ONU alumnus.
