400     400% increase in number of Accounting majors at Olivet during past 4 years (2021 to 2025).

3          Accounting is 1 of the top 3 majors at Olivet.

1          All 1st-year students in the McGraw School of Business are now required to take the Financial and Managerial Accounting course. Many are discovering that they like accounting and are good at it. This has spurred students’ increased interest in the Accounting major.

2          Accounting majors who want to become licensed CPAs double major (complete 2 majors) in Accounting and another business degree, usually Finance, at Olivet — an option that more students are now choosing.

150      Accounting graduates from Olivet who want to become CPAs have the 150 credit hours needed to be licensed once they pass the CPA exam.

6          Olivet ranked 6th among colleges and universities in the State of Illinois for graduates’ Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination (CPA Exam) pass rate (2023).

80       More than 80% of the Accounting majors who will graduate from Olivet in 2026 have already secured post-graduation full-time jobs in their field or have been accepted into a master’s degree program.

4          All of the big 4 accounting firms —and most of the top 10 national firms — are hiring Olivet students for internships and jobs.

88       Olivet’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) for 2025 was staffed by 88 student volunteers.

645     Through VITA, Olivet students assisted in the preparation of 645 Federal and State income tax returns for tax year 2024.

54        A group of 54 Olivet students and 2 professors visited 2 accounting firms in downtown Chicago for an introduction to Accounting as a profession (November 2025).

3          Insights from Olivet professors:

“Accounting is the language of business,” says Associate Professor Dave Horton ’84, CPA. “It is foundational to all financial knowledge and can apply to any industry or area of interest.”

“Accounting firms are requesting Olivet students because of the quality of their character and their work ethic,” says Dr. Glen Rewerts, associate dean of Olivet’s McGraw School of Business. “We do not have enough accounting majors to fulfill the requests we are receiving.”

“The current market demand for students graduating with their Accounting degree is strong,” says Associate Professor Tricia Mills, CPA. “There is a significant shortage of accountants everywhere. There are less students earning either their bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting. This has presented great internship opportunities for Olivet students.”
