A series of Greek myths, originally told by the poet, Ovid, are brought to life and adapted for the stage in this play by Mary Zimmerman. Originally assembled as a collection of myths that helped ancient civilizations grasp the wonder of creation, these episodes from the epic poem, Metamorphoses, focus on the turmoil of transformation and love as the inciting action of change.
Through this story we encounter familiar myths, including King Midas, Orpheus and Eurydice, Narcissus, Pandora’s Box, and Eros and Psyche, and they present to us a question; will we embrace the agency we have in our transformation, or remain helpless bystanders within it?
