In the summer 2026 issue of Olivet Nazarene University’s premier quarterly publication, Olivet The Magazine, the editorial team explored the value and power of a Christian education —specifically from the institution.
In the editorial letter at the beginning of the magazine, the team wrote “Olivet isn’t just a place to earn a degree. Olivet is a trusted partner in higher education and so much more. It’s a place to build a significant life — a place to believe, belong and become.”
University president, Gregg Chenoweth ’90, Ph.D., addressed the question of the value of a college education in his “Letter from the President.”
“We don’t ask students, ‘What is your dream?’ We ask, ‘What is God’s dream for you?’ then design the entire place around that purpose,” he explained. “Seek a calling, not just a career. Once a student grasps their deep ‘why,’ even tiresome work now loads with meaning to fulfill what they were made for. They endure and flourish in almost any circumstance. That shaping happens here.”
The conversation continues in the feature article “Is a College Education Worth the Cost?,” in which alumni provide anecdotal evidence for how their personal and professional lives were influenced by their time on campus.
The news and events section highlights Olivet’s record-breaking Day of Giving fundraising event; alumni gatherings and international trips through Travel with Olivet; ONU Theatre season preview, which kicks off with Broadway Revue this fall; the announcement of the new Executive Vice President, Cheri Betz ’98/’16 Ed.D.; and more.
In a first-person feature article, Johnathan Fightmaster ’15/’18 M.A. shares about how his years as a student, faculty, staff member and coach on Olivet’s campus have shaped his calling and career. Raving fan, Mia Luginbill ’22/’25 MBA shares about her undergraduate and graduate academic experiences. Syndicated radio producer and co-host of The Brant Hansen Show, Sherri Lynn, a current Olivet MBA student, explains why the online master’s program is a perfect fit for her current life and her future goals.
The 48-page issue also highlights summer volunteer travel and research projects completed by students and faculty; a With Honors feature of Pacey Nack, who is researching improved methods of recycling plastics; and alumni class updates.
