Shine.FM, a leading Christian radio network that is housed on the campus of Olivet Nazarene University, received formal recognition from the Illinois House of Representatives for its quick and impactful response following the devastating storms that impacted Kankakee County, Illinois and Newton County, Indiana, on March 10, 2026.
State Representative Jackie Haas, highlighted the vital role Shine.FM and its listener base played in providing critical resources, organizing volunteer efforts and uplifting community spirits during a time of crisis.
In a statement regarding the honor, Representative Haas noted, “we deeply appreciate your time and resources you dedicated to helping our community rebuild and maintain morale.”
The leadership at Shine.FM emphasizes that while the recognition bears the station’s name, the true honor belongs to God and the thousands of regional listeners who immediately stepped up to serve their neighbors.
“We are honored to receive this recognition on behalf of all the Shine.FM listeners that acted so quickly following these devastating storms,” said a representative for Shine.FM. “Our community loved so well the families of Kankakee County and Newton County. When the crisis hit, our listeners didn’t just listen — they moved into action to rebuild, support and bring hope to those who lost so much.”
Shine.FM utilized on-air broadcasting to keep the public informed of immediate aid needs and served as a drop-off location for supplies. This joint effort between the broadcast ministry and its dedicated audience highlights the profound impact a community-focused media outlet can have when disaster strikes.
