BOURBONNAIS, IL. — Olivet Nazarene (IL) (18-2-1, 10-0-0) secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Viterbo (12-6-2, 7-3-0) on Wednesday, with the home team dominating the shot count 18-5.
Olivet Nazarene (IL) initiated the period with effective offensive pressure, taking an early lead at the 7:45 mark when Atjon Thaqi scored, assisted by Niels Noordhoek. Despite several attempts on goal and a yellow card issued to Maxime Schonenberger, the home team maintained its momentum. Adrian Kang Hagman extended the lead to 2-0 at 43:27, again with an assist from Noordhoek. The period concluded with the Tigers ahead 2-0 on the scoreboard.
Olivet extended its lead late in the second half with a goal by Philip Joergensen at the 87:56 mark, assisted by Nathan Schmidli. Earlier in the half, the Tigers had several opportunities, including a header shot by Kai Bucher saved by Viterbo’s goalkeeper, Peter Kolenyo, and a crossbar hit by Thaqi. Despite Viterbo’s persistent fouling, Olivet maintained control, concluding the half with a 3-0 advantage. The match ended with the Tigers securing a decisive victory with the final score remaining 3-0.
Thaqi scored the game-winning goal, finishing with four shots, including two on target. Joergensen added to the scoreline with a goal from his only shot, which was on target. Schmidli contributed with an assist, while Noordhoek also provided two assists to support the team’s offensive efforts. Daniel Martinez led the team in shot attempts, tallying seven shots with two on goal.
The Tigers improve to 18-2-1 overall and maintain a perfect 10-0-0 conference record. Viterbo falls to 12-6-2 overall with a 7-3-0 mark in conference play.
