MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Olivet Nazarene University women’s volleyball team kept its perfect conference run alive Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-0 road sweep over Mount Mary University and extending its unbeaten start in CCAC play.
Mount Mary challenged ONU early in the opening set and built an 8-5 advantage, but the Tigers quickly flipped the momentum. Olivet responded with eight consecutive points, turning the three-point deficit into a 13-8 lead. Mount Mary later battled back within two at 17-15, but ONU closed the frame on an 8-2 run to secure the 25-17 victory.
The second set once again required a response. Mount Mary opened a 6-3 advantage before the Tigers worked back to a 9-9 tie. From there, ONU took control behind a huge serving run from Natalie Wall. With Wall behind the line, the Tigers scored nine straight points to race ahead 18-9. She recorded three service aces during the run, while Alexandria Lowery supplied multiple kills as Olivet created separation.
Mount Mary made another late push, but Ayla Dorsey delivered a kill to give ONU set point before Analiese Fredin finished the frame for the 25-19 win and a 2-0 match advantage.
The third remained tight through a 13-13 tie, but the Tigers once again found another gear when they needed it. ONU moved ahead 16-13 and gradually extended the margin, with contributions throughout the lineup. Emma Edmonds, Lowery, Baylea Creech and Adeleine Catlin all produced points during the closing stretch as Olivet pulled away for another 25-17 victory to complete the sweep.
Lowery led the Tiger offense with nine kills, while Fredin and Catlin each added five. Brynn Nikonchuk finished with four kills on six attempts for a .500 hitting percentage, while Naomi Monney-Hori recorded three kills on four swings and hit .750.
The Tigers also made a major impact defensively at the net. Creech was in on six blocks, while Lowery, Monney-Hori, Dorsey, Edmonds and Catlin each contributed multiple block assists. ONU finished with 10 total team blocks and held Mount Mary to a -.032 hitting percentage for the match.
Caddell led the setting effort with 16 assists, while Skylar Dorsey added 14 and Harumi Monney-Hori contributed six. Wall led ONU defensively with seven digs and also paced the Tigers with three service aces, while Breanna Lamie added two aces.
With Saturday’s victory, the Tigers move to 8-0 in conference play and now return to McHie Arena for a big week at home.
ONU will host Calumet on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. before turning around for one of its biggest tests of the conference season on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. against undefeated Viterbo. With their own perfect CCAC record still intact, the Tigers will have the opportunity to defend their home court and continue building on an eight-match conference winning streak.
