Olivet Nazarene University senior, Pim Huijgens, has been recognized with a first-place award in the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2024-25 Creative & Digital Design Contest, earning top honors in the College Division’s Special Projects category for his “Alumni Headed to Seattle Seahawks” graphic design. Eight of his other designs were also recognized both by the CSC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for their excellence in promoting standout student athletes.
The award was announced at the CSC’s annual Unite conference held at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort. The results of this year’s Creative & Digital Design Contest were revealed during the Special Awards luncheon.
Huijgens is from the Netherlands and is studying accounting and finance at Olivet. He works as a graphic designer for the ONU men’s soccer and football teams, and the women’s basketball team. For his first-place award-winning design, he created a striking visual that highlighted Olivet alumnus and standout football wide receiver, Brian Jenkins. In 2024, Jenkins received an invitation to the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks Rookie mini-camp.
“My inspiration for this design came from wanting to honor both the player’s individual achievement and the city he’s stepping into,” Huijgens says. “I incorporated iconic pieces of Seattle’s identity: the Space Needle, the Ferris wheel on the waterfront, and the Seahawks’ football stadium. Then I added some clouds and flares to add more depth to it. My goal was to make a graphic that captures pride, place and possibility all in one image.”
The 2024-25 CSC Creative & Digital Design Contest set participation records for the second consecutive year with 2,160 total entries. Among those were 1,230 entries in the College Division where Huijgens competed, with more than 250 institutions represented.
According to their website, the CSC challenged participants in this category to submit materials that “showcase their creativity through graphics and videos for any special project they undertook for their department during the 2024-25 academic year.”
Huijgens rose to that challenge.
The College Sports Communicators organization, founded in 1957, serves as the national association for strategic, creative and digital communicators across intercollegiate athletics in the United States and Canada, with more than 3,200 members.
