At Olivet Nazarene University, the tagline of “We believe. You belong here.” was in action this summer during Orientation for first-year students. On June 19-20, the Office of Admissions hosted more than 1,430 guests for the two-day event, which helps new students and their families adjust to college life. This year, 533 freshmen and 35 transfer students attended Orientation — collectively representing 29 states and multiple world regions, including countries in the Pacific Rim.
Orientation 2025 was a result of campus-wide collaboration to welcome incoming freshman and transfer students in anticipation of starting the fall semester well. Attendees were introduced to elements of academic and social life at Olivet through dynamic presentations from University President, Gregg Chenoweth ’90, Ph.D.; dean of the School of Professional Studies, Dr. Amber Residori ’93/’17 Ed.D.; and alumni board member, LaMorris Crawford ’06/ ’12 MOL, as well as testimonies from current students.
There were plenty of opportunities for new students and their families to connect with each other including a late-night social event and a “campus fair” which highlighted various departments, clubs, organizations and associations to ease the transition to college life in the fall. During Orientation, incoming students also signed up for housing, planned their academic course load for the fall semester and met their professors, athletic coaches, residential life staff and other members of the Olivet community.
At the conclusion of the event, Olivet faculty and staff lined the lobby of Centennial Chapel to collectively cheer as the students and families departed. Together, this group represented “the great cloud of witnesses” to encourage the new students to work harder, go farther and make a difference for God’s Kingdom.
