Recreation, Sports, and Fitness Studies

Parks and Recreation

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and an associate degree in Recreation, Sport, and Fitness Studies is for students who want to share their passion for activity and fun with others.

This degree is designed for the person who wants to be involved with recreation, but not directly with organized sports or athletic teams.

At Olivet, you can study outdoor education, adaptive physical education, recreation sports management, sports facility planning and management, marketing, organization and administration of athletics and more. Spend time volunteering to work at a local recreation site, camp or park.

Students will complete a practicum – similar to an internship – during his/her junior or senior year. This is designed to give students experience onsite with an organization or company that is in the business of recreation.

Internships are a way for students to extend their learning experience as they approach the end of their degree programs. Companies and organizations that have provided these opportunities for our students include: Chicago Bears, Joliet Jackhammers (minor league baseball team), YMCA, Chicago First Church of the Nazarene’s sport ministry and many more.

Career Services

“Olivet has an excellent and very demanding exercise and sports science program. At Olivet, I was doing things my sophomore year that interns from other schools didn’t do until they were juniors. My goal was to work in a professional sports setting. Olivet prepared me to accomplish that goal.”

Micah Gerhart ’12, assistant athletic trainer, NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles
