Olivet Tiger football celebrates winning season

With their 20-17 win over St. Ambrose University (Iowa) on November 11, 2017, the Olivet Nazarene University Tiger football team ended their regular season in the best way. This was the Tigers’ sixth victory of the season — a winning season for the first time since 2005 — and gave the seniors a win in their final game. 

ONU defeated St. Ambrose at Ward Field with an outstanding defensive effort, tallying 10 points off turnovers, and a tough run game.

Notable stats include:

Senior Erik Anderson had 30 carries for a career-high 174 yards, two catches for four yards, one touchdown pass for five yards.

Junior Caleb Coe had the team-high 19 tackles with 2.0 TFL (15 yards) and one forced fumble.

Sophomore Josh Anderson tallied eight points with two field goals (35 and 18 yards), both in the third quarter. He also made two PATs.

Freshman Brady Walling scored the first touchdown in the first quarter of the game on a five-yard reception on a pass from Erik Anderson.

Sophomore Jake Klingelsmith scored the final touchdown for the Tigers on a fumble recovery on a kickoff in the third quarter.

The Tigers held St. Ambrose to -10 yards rushing and forced three turnovers. ONU finished with 191 yards on the ground and had only one turnover.

Olivet Tiger football’s regular season is now complete. They finished the season 6-5 and 2-3 in the Mid States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League.
