In the winter 2021 issue of Olivet The Magazine, “Miracles and Moments,” the editorial team gathered stories to encourage and inspire the Olivet community.

University President Dr. John C. Bowling gives insight to both the simplicity and majesty of the miracle of the incarnation and the relevance of miracles in the present world. “Apart from the miracles of the physical world, I also see miracles of a different nature unfolding regularly across the campus of Olivet. Lives are transformed; hurts from the past are healed; futures are forged; hope and faith are rekindled.”

In the feature article, The Case for Miracles, New York Times bestselling author Lee Strobel unpacks the intersection of faith and the miraculous.

The five siblings in the Proehl family reflect on their unique journeys to Olivet and their resulting careers in meaningful occupations. Three other Olivet alumni contributed thoughts about significant moments of miracles from their personal and professional lives.

Senior multimedia communication major Shemara Fontes shares how her transition from growing up in Cape Verde to attending college in Illinois has shaped her worldview and her appreciation for community.

In the first person feature, Gordon Tommy ’97, senior manager of material control at Abbott Laboratories recounts how his educational foundation at Olivet set him up for a successful career doing meaningful work.

Additionally, senior development officer Dr. Roy Quanstrom provides encouragement through the art of sailing, and Dr. Les Parrott ’84 shares the importance of finding pause in the midst of chaos and busyness.

The 65-page issue highlights news stories covering the academic and athletic accomplishments of students, faculty and alumni.
