The winter issue coming soon to mailboxes.

December 10, 2021 Alumni & Friends

In the winter 2022 issue of Olivet The Magazine, the editorial team curated content to encourage and inspire the Olivet community through stories and articles focusing on celebration and thankfulness, personal and professional exploration, and a future that is bright with promise and hope.

Following a very busy fall semester on campus, this issue extensively covers the festivities of Homecoming & Family Weekend as well as the Presidential Inauguration of Dr. Gregg Chenoweth ’90. To emphasize the importance and influence of a Christian education on a life of meaningful service, Dr. Chenoweth invited eight esteemed alumni back for a panel discussion about how their Olivet experience has impacted their professional lives. The panel included Suzanne Bell ’98, Jessica Swanson ’06, Angel Colón ’90, Shirley Close ’70, LaMorris Crawford ’06, Eric Johnson ’94, Mary Lou Carney ’73, and Dave Horton ’84.

Raving fans, Martha (Arnston) ’13 and Ben Heller ’13 discussed the value they found in a Christian learning environment and how that foundation has particularly applied in Ben’s career as a professional athlete. Dr. Katie Fitzgerald ’15 gave her first person testimonial on her educational journey from math education major to university professor. Both Ben and Katie were recognized during the Homecoming Weekend festivities as Young Alumni Award winners.

Olivet’s student body represents 46 states and 27 countries this year. A small sampling from one of Dr. Lynda Allen’s leadership courses shared how they have made the most of their academic opportunities in a global senior seminar.

The 56-page issue also highlights news stories covering the academic accomplishments of students, faculty and alumni; a University Honors Program article contributed by Dr. Stephen Case ’05; a young alumnus story of John Parrott’s experiences in graduate school at Oxford University; and professors Dr. Don Daake and Dr. Ed Piatt’s take on the importance of gratitude in everything they do.
