August 9, 2022 Admissions

In the summer 2022 issue of Olivet The Magazine, “The Parent Guide,” the editorial team curated a selection of content specifically geared toward parents and families of prospective college students.

Based on Olivet’s core tenet that higher education should serve a higher purpose, the goal of this special issue is to provide context for why “We Believe. You Belong Here.” through faculty contributions, financial aid guides, a college admission checklist and an overview of what life at Olivet can look like for an incoming freshman or transfer student.

In “The Interview” new Vice President for Enrollment Management, Mark Reddy provides his perspectives on why he believes Olivet is an exceptional higher education institution and discusses some unique elements of the University admissions process.

“Olivet remains relevant now because it’s training students to fulfill what they love to do — but do that for a bigger purpose,” Mark said. “What we’re trying to do is equip students to find something that they’re passionate about and then go out and give back to others. It’s almost countercultural to what we’re hearing. So, they’re not just looking to go into a job that’s going to make them successful. They’re going into jobs that they love, and they’re making a difference pouring back into communities and into other people.”

The “Parent Guide” features three contributed articles from Dr. David Van Heemst, Prof. Ashley Sarver and Dr. Cynthia Taylor, who all speak to the value of Christian higher education from a variety of perspectives. Additionally, the magazine interviewed Dean of the College of Professional Studies, Dr. Amber Residori, about how students can find their calling through “The Process of Becoming.”

“Let’s be honest: Choosing a career is important, and not many of us were ready to make that decision at 17 or 18 years old,” Dr. Residori reflected. “However, each of us are blessed with unique gifts and talents, and there are careers that match our specific strengths.”

The 58-page issue also highlights the many opportunities that students have to get involved on campus in “Making the Most of College;” success stories of three outstanding transfer students; and news stories covering the academic accomplishments of students, faculty and alumni.
