At the annual Olivet Nazarene University Board of Trustees meeting, held on campus October 1-2, 2019, University President, Dr. John C. Bowling formally discussed his plans to retire in May 2021 and a Presidential Succession Plan was approved.

This plan set forth several key items for consideration for the Board of Trustees as they begin the process of preparing for the election of a new president of the University. The plan included a timeline for the search and election process. In order to ensure continuity in the Board throughout the election process, the Board also voted to elect its officers (chairman, vice-chairman and secretary) and members of the executive committee for a period of three years, rather than a one-year term.

Dr. Scott Sherwood ’92 M.A.T., district superintendent of the Northwest Illinois District of the Church of the Nazarene, was elected as chairman of the Board. He will replace Dr. David Roland, who will be retiring from the Board at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year.

Scott and his wife, Sherry (Fortado) ’91, are the parents of Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Sherwood ’19, junior Madeira Sherwood and freshman Brook Sherwood. They live in Pekin, Illinois.
