The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and minor in Exercise Science is for the student interested in personal well-being, as it relates to exercise and nutrition.
Exercise science includes the study of the human body – bones, muscles, skin, tissue – and human movement. Learn how to keep the body in top condition. Appreciate the effects that nutrition and exercise have on the body. Understand injury and illness prevention, and ways to help people cope with their injuries. Find new ways to help people overcome their excuses and fears relating to fitness.
Olivet’s exercise science program requires that students complete an internship in the field at a local hospital, health club, rehab center, or therapeutic institute. Students will also design and complete a senior project, including working with volunteer faculty and staff as his/her personal trainer for six weeks.
At Olivet, students will:
Study kinesiology, exercise physiology, personal training; Benefit from the hands-on, experiential approach that this program takes; Work with athletes, faculty, staff and students in our fitness center, swimming pools, and field house; Get the educational foundation you need to enter a graduate school program in an allied science field: radiological technician, physician’s assistant, occupational therapist, teacher of biomechanics or exercise physiology on the college level; Prepare well to enter physical therapy school. More and more schools are designing their programs to grant the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in three years. Their graduates can teach and/or practice; Be equipped to succeed as a personal trainer or owner of a fitness center.
