Moranda “Mo” Matheson, MSN, MBA

Moranda “Mo” Matheson, joined the Olivet Nazarene University faculty in 2026 as an Assistant Professor of Nursing. Mo knew she wanted to become a nurse from the time she became a CNA at age 16, but her path into nursing was not a traditional one. She began her career as an RN in critical care at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, an experience that shaped her perspective on healthcare, leadership and the nursing profession.

While working as a nurse in the pandemic, Mo pursued her MBA, developing an interest in healthcare systems, policy, quality improvement and advocacy. Her passion for nursing education grew after precepting an Olivet nursing student in the emergency department. After participating in the student’s pinning ceremony, Mo realized she wanted to help prepare the next generation of nurses. She went on to earn her MSN in Nursing Education from Olivet Nazarene University in 2024.

Following her graduate education, Mo served as a Clinical Nurse Educator at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, where she developed and supported educational initiatives for nurses and healthcare staff. This experience further strengthened her passion for education and professional development and ultimately led her to pursue a full-time faculty position at Olivet. Today, Mo is passionate about nursing education, professional advocacy and empowering nurses to use their voices beyond the bedside. She has been actively involved with the ANA-Illinois Political Action Committee, gaining experience in legislative advocacy and healthcare policy. She believes nurses have an important role in shaping healthcare and advocates for nurses to be informed, engaged and willing to speak up for their patients and profession.

In her free time, she enjoys rebinding books, crafting, gardening and reading, as well as spending time with her nephew. Mo’s faith is central to her approach to nursing and education. She strives to approach each opportunity to teach, serve and advocate with the belief that she is called to use her gifts to serve others.
