Prof. Bishop has been teaching at the college since 2001, with the majority of his career spent at Olivet. His expertise spans media communications, television/video production, and broadcast journalism.
Throughout his professional journey, Prof. Bishop worked at six television stations, contributing to various roles such as production crew at Chicago’s Christian station (formerly WCFC, now The Total Living Network), producer, reporter, and weather anchor at the CBS affiliate in Rockford, Illinois, reporter and weather anchor at the ABC affiliate in Lincoln, Nebraska, meteorologist at the FOX affiliate in Omaha, Nebraska, meteorologist at ABC Network in Chicago (where he was featured on ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir in a segment on severe weather), and meteorologist at the FOX affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee.
At Olivet, he oversees “Access ONU,” a television news magazine produced by students. This unique show, which airs on Facebook, features campus headlines and highlights the stories of students, faculty, and staff.
Prof. Bishop is passionate about mentoring students in TV/video and film concentrations, guiding them to use their talents in professional broadcasting. He has played an instrumental role in helping students secure internships with high-profile organizations such as Emmy-winning Towers Productions, the Chicago Bears media department, ABC 7 Chicago, Comcast Sports Network, CMT in Nashville, and O’Connor Casting Agency in Chicago.
Throughout his television career, Prof. Bishop was a member of the American Meteorological Society
(AMS) and earned the AMS seal of approval for his weather forecasting. He also won an Associated Press award for reporting during his time at the ABC affiliate in Lincoln, Nebraska. In recognition of his dedication to teaching, he received Olivet’s “Second Mile Award,” an honor given to the professor most highly recommended by students.
Prof. Bishop and his wife, Leanne, have two daughters. Their eldest, Marisa, is a High School English teacher in Myrtle Beach, SC, and their youngest, Katie, is a graduate student in the VetMed program at the University of Illinois.
