Josh Johnson
Assistant Professor, Communication
Prof. Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Communication at Olivet Nazarene University and a doctoral student at Purdue University. His academic focus is on interpersonal communication, with a particular emphasis on how parents and children navigate taboo topics, specifically pornography. He also teaches courses in interpersonal communication, communication theory, and public speaking at the undergraduate level. Prof. Johnson joined Olivet in the fall of 2024, bringing his passion for communication and education to the university community.
Prof. Johnson earned his M.A. from Purdue University and his B.A. from Biola University, both in interpersonal communication. During his time at Biola, he participated in the Torrey Honors Institute, Biola’s great books program, and held various leadership roles in the Communication Department, including serving as a teaching assistant for two courses and working as a career center ambassador. He also has experience mentoring high school students and teaching young children.
As a scholar, Prof. Johnson has presented research at the National Communication Association on topics such as father-child communication, parental influence on identity development, film rhetoric, and faithbased communication. He is deeply passionate about supporting families and fostering strong and healthy relationships between parents and children. As a professor, he is equally committed to mentorship, discipleship, and helping students thrive academically, personally, and spiritually.
Prof. Johnson is known for his love of people, education, and the power of communication. His ability to create positive and supportive environments makes him a valued encourager and collaborator. When he’s not focused on work or academics, you can find him spending time with friends and family, reading a good book, or enjoying a nature walk in the local park. He also loves playing games, watching movies, worshipping on his guitar, and having meaningful conversations with students over a cup of coffee.
