Dr. Case is the Director of the University Honors Program and the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship. He teaches astronomy, physics and courses on the history of science as well as science and theology.
He brings his cross-disciplinary background to science instruction and research. Case Is the author of Making Stars Physical: The Astronomy of Sir John Herschel (University Pittsburgh Press, 2018), Creatures of Reason: John Herschel and the Invention of Science (University Pittsburgh Press, 2024) and Celestial Bodies: Astronomy, Astrology, and the Story of the Heavens (Reaktion Books, 2026). He is also co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to John Hershel (Cambridge University Press, 2024).
His research and essays have appeared in Physics Today, Journal for the History of Astronomy, Historical Studies in the Natural Sciences, Annals of Science, Zondervan’s Dictionary of Christianity and Science, Aeon Magazineand American Scientist. He has taught in Italy as part of the International Planetarium Society’s exchange program, serves on the organizing committee of the Biennial Workshop on the History of Astronomy and in 2018 traveled to Chile as part of the Astronomy in Chile Educator Ambassadors Program. In 2025-26 he was a residential research fellow at the Linda Hall Library in Kansas City.
