The primary focus of this major is on how different cultures interact with each other. Students also examine the impact of globalization, culture, language and other factors on interactions among people and nations, as well as analyze the differences in values and beliefs. Crossing boundaries with cultural intelligence and biblical knowledge will equip leaders in the contemporary world to be effective wherever they go. This major is designed with double-majoring in mind and is for students with a variety of vocational goals who wish to be able to effectively navigate a multi-cultural milieu.

Students at Olivet analyze and research cultures and countries, looking at them throughout history and consider how they have evolved and to exist today. The primary focus is on how different cultures bond and interact with each other. Students also examine the impact of race, culture, language and other factors on interactions among people and nations, as well as analyze the differences in and barriers to communication. The realities of discrimination, prejudices, racism and conflict negotiations are central to this study.

The Shalom Project (formerly Missions in Action) sponsors student mission trips to serve people living around the world, as well as in the U.S.

Intercultural Studies Students

  • Study missions, ethnic relations, theology and international relations.
