Military Science

LTC Alex Moen hails from Winnebago, IL. Upon graduation from Winnebago High School he attended Texas A&M University and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. He completed the Field Artillery Basic Course at FT Sill, OK and was stationed at FT Bliss, TX with 5-82 FA 4th Brigade Combat Team 1st Calvary Division as a Firing Platoon leader and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Upon return from deployment, LTC Moen went back to FT. Sill for Captain Career Course and then was stationed with 4-320th FA 4th Brigade Combat Team 101st Airborne (Air Assault). He served as a Squadron Fire Support Officer for 1-61 CAV during a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Upon returning from deployment, LTC Alex Moen commanded Alpha Battery 4-320th Field Artillery and Headquarters and Headquarters Support Company (HSC) for Headquarters Battalion (HHBN) 101st Airborne (Air Assault) in Afghanistan in support of OEF.

Once complete with command, LTC Moen assisted in establishing 101st Division Artillery where he was promoted to the rank of Major and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve where he served as the Strike Director in Combined Joint Operations Center (CJOC) Erbil during the seizure of Mosul from ISIS. Upon return, LTC Moen attended the Command and General Staff College (CGSC).

LTC Moen returned to FT Campbell after CGSG with 2nd Brigade 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) as a Brigade Fire Support Officer and Battalion S3 with 1-320th Field Artillery.  Upon completion of those assignments, LTC Moen was stationed with 157 IN BDE 1st Army at Camp Atterbury, IN as the Brigade Operations Officer and Executive Officer where he assisted in Operation Allies Welcome (OAW).

LTC Alex Moen currently serves as the Professor of Military Science for Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL

LTC Moen’s awards include The Bronze Star Medal (2 OLC), The Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious service metal (1 OLC), Army Accommodation medal (2 OCL), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), Operation Inherent resolve campaign ribbon, Operation Iraqi Freedom Campaign ribbon, Operations Enduring Freedom campaign ribbon, The Global War on Terror ribbon, NATO ribbon, Overseas service ribbon, and the Army Service Ribbon. Combat action badge, Air Assault Badge and Airborne Badge.

LTC Moen is married to his wife, Kayla and has four children.
