As a Christian community, we seek to honor God in all that we learn, say and do. Our campus living standards reflect that endless pursuit.

 

Olivet Nazarene University attempts to develop and interpret all we do from a Christian vantage point. We operate from the conviction that God has created men and women to operate in an orderly and purposeful fashion in concert with His intent for the world. Thus, a Christian community must develop regulations as guides to obtain its mission. Regulations help the University community put into practice its basic moral and social principles.

Alcohol and Substance Abuse Policy

Olivet Nazarene University is committed to maintaining a drug-free and alcohol-free campus. Students who exhibit the inability to adjust to campus life expectations may be disenrolled from the University at the discretion of the Office of Student Development.

If you cannot commit to these standards, you may have selected the wrong university. However, if you are struggling with one of these values in your life, but truly desire to change, then let us work together to reach new levels of accomplishment in your future and ours.

Open House

Open house occurs on campus throughout the week as an opportunity for the opposite sex to visit within the residence halls and university apartments. Open house is a privilege on our campus, requiring monitors to perform periodic visits around the building and each guest of the opposite sex participating to sign in through a link provided by the Residential Life staff.

Open House in the Residence Halls is on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7-11pm.

Open House in the Apartments is Monday-Friday from 4pm-11pm and Saturday & Sunday from 12-11pm.

Curfew

In-hours for residents of Parrott Hall, Williams Hall, Nesbitt Hall and Chapman Hall: 1 a.m. nightly.

In-hours for residents of Howe Hall, Hills Hall, McClain Hall and campus apartments: Sunday–Thursday, 1 a.m.; Friday and Saturday, 2 a.m.Late passes are not issued. However, overnight passes are available to students who communicate with Residential Life staff when they are not spending the night in their university housing.

The apartments still maintain the curfew for upperclassmen; however, nightly room checks are only enforced through random accountability checks. In all apartments, accountability checks occur two to three times per week. Accountability checks are created to provide additional accountability and safety to our residents living in the apartments.

Residence Hall Activities

An upperclassman resident assistant is assigned to each floor and building. One of the many responsibilities of the RA is to plan monthly activities for residents. This may include pizza or ice cream breaks, movie nights, bowling, sports tournaments, etc. Along with activities, an RA will always have a floor or building Bible study, encouraging the growth of each resident’s spiritual life.

Roommate Bill of Rights

The right to sleep and study, free from undue interference in one’s room — unreasonable noise, guests and other distractions inhibit the exercise of this right.

  1. The right to expect that roommates will respect one’s personal belongings.
  2. The right to a clean environment in which to live.
  3. The right to free access of one’s room and facilities without pressure from a roommate.
  4. The right to privacy.
  5. The right to be free from fear of intimidation, physical and/or emotional harm.
  6. The right to expect cooperation in the use of “room-shared” appliances.
  7. The right for fairness of grievances. Residence hall staff members are available for assistance in settling conflicts.
