Dr. Jay Martinson

Dean of Online Learning and Professor


Serving as Olivet’s Dean of Online Learning, Dr. Martinson leads the Center for Online Learning and Innovation.  He equips faculty with innovative technologies, pedagogies and training for high quality online learning initiatives. Because of his outstanding public speaking abilities, he is often on stage at dinners, presentations and celebrations on and off campus.  He has an open-door policy and welcomes opportunities to talk with and advise students.

 Dr. Martinson is the creator and director of the Veritas program – a fully online program for students to begin their majors from home for up to two years before transitioning to campus to complete their undergraduate degrees. As former chair of the communication department, he has taught a variety of communication courses, including public speaking, interpersonal communication, organizational communication and created the interdisciplinary leadership minor. He has also developed and taught leadership courses for Olivet’s MBA, EMBA and Ed.D. programs. In 2002, he received the Richard M. Jones Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence. 

Dr. Martinson and his wife, Jeanette, have two sons, two daughters, four grandsons and one granddaughter. His hobbies include spending time with his family, photography and running.
