Academic Support

Academic Support offers tutoring, writing assistance, academic skill building, and workshop opportunities to assist students in achieving a comprehensive understanding of course materials and develop academic skills.

Our team members tailor each 1:1 session, study group and workshop to the needs of the learner, creating purposeful and intentional pathways toward academic achievement. We believe in the potential of each student and provide a welcoming and encouraging space in which students can receive assistance to discover and strengthen their skills – empowering students as they persist in their coursework.

Academic Tutoring

Our tutors work are committed to empowering students as they grow in their knowledge related to a specific course. Tutors work with students in small groups or on a one-on-one basis to foster a deeper understanding of course concepts. Using collaborative learning exercises that facilitate independent learning, our goal is for students to leave a tutoring session feeling encouraged and confident in their abilities to accomplish academic tasks.

Academic Skill Building

ASB Peer Educators offer a unique experience for students to develop skills and strategies that will embolden them to become independent and active learners. Ready to engage students across disciplines, our Academic Skill Builders receive extensive training in learning strategies such as time management, note-taking, study skills, prioritization and much more. They help students evaluate, identify and create targeted goals before implementing new practices and routines to support their learning.

Dedicated Tutors

Writing Center Assistants

With competent writing a critical necessity for undergraduate students, our Writing Center Assistants are a group of tutors exclusively dedicated to writing assistance and writing skill development.  A branch of Academic Support, the Writing Center provides support for all steps of the writing process from ideation to revision. Assistants provide a comprehensive and collaborative approach to the writing process including discussing students’ concerns and needs, discerning areas for growth, and providing specific strategies for improving writing in general and specific to the audience and purpose of the writing task.

Peer Educators

A critical component of our success in Academic Support is our team of tutors and academic skill builders, known as Peer Educators. Peer Educators have been identified and recommended by a faculty member for their excellence in coursework, strong interpersonal skills and desire to help others reach their full potential. Academic Support provides Peer Educators with ongoing training, as well as regularly scheduled evaluations that promote self-reflection, personal growth and accountability.
