Joining Olivet’s full-time faculty in 2013, Dr. Nehls teaches the course in medical surgical nursing, community health nursing, and gerontology/palliative care. Dr. Nehls 30 years of experience as a registered nurse has prepared her well for introducing her students to the joys and challenges of the profession. She has worked in a variety of settings, including medical-surgical nursing, medical oncology, home care, and long-term care.

Before coming to Olivet, she was an adjunct nursing instructor at Kankakee Community College for 11 years. She taught clinicals to students in the certified nursing assistant and licensed practical nursing programs.

Dr. Nehls has the ELNEC (end-of-life care) certification and was certified for wound care from 2007 to 2012 through the National Alliance for Wound Care and was chemotherapy certified when working on the oncology unit at the hospital. Dr. Nehls and her husband, Tim, have one son, Thomas. Two of her greatest pleasures are attending Thomas’ sporting events, and spending time with her family and friends. For relaxation, she enjoys reading, scrap booking and camping.
