Dr. Dowling became Olivet's director of graduate programs in education in 2015. She oversees and teaches courses in education, multicultural education, secondary education, and curriculum and instruction.

Her professional career in education includes eight years teaching at the preschool through grade 12 level. She also served as a professor at the college level for 10 years with five of those years in Christian higher education. Her four years in higher education leadership prepared her well for her current assignment at Olivet.

Dr. Dowling received the Toyota International Teacher study abroad grant to study in Japan. She is also a 1998 Fulbright Memorial Fund scholar and studied in Japan through that program. In 2003, she was named Teacher of the Year at Muncie Central High School and received the Excellence in Teaching award.

She currently serves as the vice president of the board of directors for the Motivate Our Minds learning enrichment center and chairs its curriculum committee. She is a member of the Association of Teacher Educators, American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, National Association for the Education of Young Children and National Association for Professional Development Schools.

For leisure time and relaxation, she makes bead and wire jewelry for herself and others. Her volunteer work includes being part of the music ministry and women's ministry at Muncie (Indiana) First Church of the Nazarene. She speaks Spanish and Japanese fluently. Her ethnic background has prepared her well for relating with students in a multicultural setting.

She is one-half Indian and one-half Slovak. Her love for education comes from her parents. Her father, now deceased, came from India with only seven dollars to his name to pursue his additional graduate education in engineering. Her mother is a registered nurse who continues to serve her patients with kindness and loving care.

Dr. Dowling and her husband, Trent, were married in 1998. He is the senior vice president for Star Financial Bank in Muncie, Indiana. They are the parents of two sons, Jared and Joel.
