Professor Forrestal joined Olivet's faculty in 1989. She has led Olivet students in several study tours of England and attended the C. S. Lewis Summer Institute in Oxford, England, to enrich her teaching of the special topics course on C. S. Lewis. She also participated in a one-week workshop on Shakespeare performance at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia, to discover new methods for teaching Shakespeare.

Professor Forrestal has been faculty adviser for Tygr, an art and literary publication that showcases the work of ONU students, since 1996.

Having a strong interest in Volunteers in Mission, she was recipient of United Methodist Women Special Recognition from the Women's Division of the General Board of Global Ministries and has helped provide leadership for two Missions In Action trips to Africa. She is a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church and was a student under Dr. Francis Schaeffer at the Swiss branch of L'Abri.

Professor Forrestal is a member of the College English Association and the Illinois Association of Teachers of English.
