Jonathan Pickering has worked within higher education for almost 30 years, with his first five years as an assistant to the registrar at Olivet in the 1990s. He returned to ONU in 2014 after spending 17 years at North Central College as Registrar and Assistant Dean, and currently serves as the Dean of Academic Operations. 

In his role he focuses on data analysis, campus infrastructure and academic policy, and provides oversight to the Registrar's Office, the Library and Career Development, as well as assessment, advising and institutional research and persistence. He serves as the Academic Liaison Officer for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the University's accrediting body. Dr. Pickering has also been a peer reviewer for HLC since 2019.

He serves as an adjunct faculty member for the University's Doctor of Education program in Ethical Leadership; developing and teaching courses in qualitative research methodology. He also teaches courses in the School of Business and for the MBA program.

With his wife, Linda, he has raised three sons (all of whom are Olivet alumni) — Colin '20, Sean '21, and Mark '23. Dr. Pickering is active in his local church and one of his favorite verses is Hebrews 4:16: "Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
