JaKobe Henry

Adjunct Professor


JaKobe Henry is a dynamic trumpet player, educator and composer based out of Champaign, Illinois. He is currently pursuing his D.M.A. in Jazz Performance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). This follows the completion of his M.M. in Trumpet Performance and Literature at UIUC and his B.A. in Music Education K-12 from Jacksonville State University.

JaKobe currently studies with Charles Daval and Tito Carrillo. Other notable teachers JaKobe has studied with include Ronald Romm and Chris Probst. In 2018, JaKobe had the honor of performing with the Alabama Intercollegiate Honor Band and performing during a collegiate honors recital at the Trumpet Festival of the Southeast. In 2021, JaKobe was selected as a semi-finalist for the Military Excerpt Division in the National Trumpet Competition. While at UIUC, JaKobe has played with the Illinois Wind Symphony (co-principal), Symphony Orchestra, Graduate Brass Quintet, Latin Jazz Festival and Jazz Combos. Recent professional ensemble appearances include Sinfonia da Camera and the Heartland Symphony Orchestra.
