Dr. Thompson has been working in higher education since 2009. He is the new Director of Persistence and Advising. Thompson enjoys connecting with students and has a passion for helping them to achieve their goals. 

Dr. Thompson started his career teaching primarily physical education and health for twelve years at the K-12 level in both public and private Christian school settings in Illinois. In addition to teaching, he also served as an athletic director and coach.

Dr. Thompson began his higher education career in 2009 at Olivet Nazarene University where he worked for 10 years as a faculty member in the Exercise and Sports Science department. He also served as department chair for two years at ONU. His doctoral dissertation research examined the impact high school physical education has on the physical activity habits of traditional college freshmen. Dr. Thompson also served as a faculty member and department chair in the Kinesiology department at Southern Nazarene University for two years. He returned to ONU in 2021. Dr. Thompson is a member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). 

Dr. Thompson's wife, Dawn, teaches fifth grade and they have three daughters. Their oldest daughter, Emilee, is in high school. Leah and Sydney are in middle and elementary school. Thompson loves to ride many miles on his bicycle and has completed multiple century rides.
