Since 1994, Dr. Garfield has enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience with Olivet students. As an affiliate professor, he currently teaches courses in evaluating and quantifying information, and decision-making for business degree programs. Writing courses for Olivet is a challenge that he welcomes.

One of his favorite authorities on information evaluation is Jeff Katzer of Syracuse University, who has had a significant influence on Dr. Garfield's education and teaching. He credits Katzer with "quelling my anxiety about numbers and inspiring me to use statistics in practical, satisfying ways."

Previously, Dr. Garfield taught and performed research full time at Syracuse University and Northeastern Illinois University.

A member of the Canadian National Rowing Team, Dr. Garfield competed in 1970 World Championships. Today, he enjoys hiking, biking and skiing with his wife at their home in Idaho.
