Athletic Coaching

Ready to Play

The minor in Athletic Coaching is for the student with a passion for motivating the next generation of athletes.

Athletic coaches have the power to inspire and motivate athletes on and off the field. Today, coaches are needed in schools, recreation centers and camps, helping children, teens and adults learn new physical and social skills, improve their physical condition, and experience success in their sport. By modeling and developing good sportsmanship, a competitive spirit, and teamwork, a coach often becomes one of the most influential leaders in a person’s life.

At Olivet, students learn the nuts and bolts of administration, basic knowledge of athletic training, and the essentials of proper weight training. In addition to that, students will develop knowledge of biology, chemistry, physiology and nutrition.

In addition to internships, students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles on campus, through clubs, activities, intramural sports and student government.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) brings coaches and athletes together to impact the world for Jesus Christ. Olivet’s local chapter is part of the largest Christian sports organization in America. Support, encouragement and service to fellow students form the name of this game.

Holistic Health

At Olivet, degree programs are grounded in wholeness and wellness. Professors teach from the perspective of the wellness wheel with the spiritual dimension at the hub. Students gain a Christian focus and mindset with countless opportunities to grow in their personal faith and to experience that integration into everything they learn.

Internships are a way for students to extend their learning experience as they approach the end of their degree programs. Companies and organizations that have provided these opportunities for our students include: Chicago Bears, Joliet Jackhammers (minor league baseball team), YMCA, Chicago First Church of the Nazarene’s sport ministry and many more.

Career Services

“Olivet has an excellent and very demanding exercise and sports science program. At Olivet, I was doing things my sophomore year that interns from other schools didn’t do until they were juniors. My goal was to work in a professional sports setting. Olivet prepared me to accomplish that goal.”

Micah Gerhart ’12, assistant athletic trainer, NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles
