Who is the typical candidate for the program?

The ABSN program is designed for individuals who desire to transition to the field of nursing from another degree, but candidates missing pre-requisite courses can be accepted into the university to complete these courses.

I don’t have an RN license. Can I do this program?

Yes! The ABSN program is designed for individuals who desire to transition to the field of nursing from another degree. Upon completing the program, you will receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. This degree will make you eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Once you pass the NCLEX exam, you officially become a Registered Nurse and may practice as one.

I currently have an RN license. Is the ABSN the right program for me?

No, the ABSN program is designed for individuals who desire a transition to the field of nursing from another degree. If you already have your RN license and are looking to complete your bachelor's degree, our RN to BSN degree would be a great fit for you!

Are there ABSN academic or HESI scholarships available? 

Yes, an ABSN scholarship will be offered to every student who scores an 86% or higher on the HESI exam and/or has a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the nine nursing pre-requisite courses. Students can qualify for anywhere between $1,000-$6,000 towards their tuition.

Scholarships 

  • $4,000 GPA Scholarship for all new incoming students with a 3.5 cumulative GPA on the 9 science and nursing pre-requisite courses.  
  • $2,000 HESI A2 Scholarship for those who receive a score of 94% or higher on the HESI. According to Elsevier, a score above 90% is considered to be excellent.

 

The scholarships are exclusive to the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at Olivet Nazarene University.

  • $1,000 HESI A2 Scholarship for those who receive a score of 86% to 93% on the HESI. According to Elsevier, a score above 80% is considered to be very good.
  • No limits on the number of scholarships awarded to each student who qualifies.  Awards may range from $1,000 to $6,000 max per student.

The ABSN program provides students with a professional foundation, integrating nursing theory with skills required for nursing practice. Through the ABSN program, you will gain valuable patient care experience, critical decision making skills and confidence. This full-time program of study combines online learning with hands-on clinical practice.

Is the Olivet ABSN program a full-time program?

Yes, it is a full-time program. It combines online learning with practical, hands-on clinical practice. Due to the demanding nature of the program, students should not plan on working while in the program.

The ABSN program is a 59-credit hour, full-time, accelerated program that consists of online instruction with testing, simulations, labs, and clinical rotations completed onsite at our Oak Brook, IL regional center and at local hospitals and healthcare facilities. You will start and complete the program with your class group in about 16 months. The curriculum is based on the mission, philosophy, and conceptual framework of Olivet Nazarene University’s Department of Nursing.

Graduation requirements include successful completion of the ABSN curriculum, a GPA of 2.75 or above and 120 semester hours of college credit, which will include required general education and prerequisite courses. Graduates of this program will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).

I live outside of Illinois/the Chicagoland area. Can I do this program?

While much of the learning takes place online, ABSN students will need to complete clinical practice at our location in Oak Brook, Illinois and various local hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout the Chicagoland area.

 

What are the ABSN admission requirements?

The ABSN program is designed for those who hold an associate degree (AA or AS) or bachelor's degree in another field. Candidates may start with 0 credit hours prior to starting the ABSN Core. Candidates must meet the minimum requirements of a 2.75 cumulative GPA for previously earned credits, earned a 75% overall, 75% math,  75% English Composite, 75% Reading Comprehension, 64% A&P on the HESI exam, and complete all prerequisite courses with a grade “C” or better.

How long does the ABSN degree take?

The ABSN program is a 16-month, full-time ABSN program with a blend of online theory courses and practical, hands-on clinical experiences.

Where can I work as a registered nurse who has earned a BSN? 

RNs with a BSN are qualified to work in several different types of healthcare settings including:

  • Skilled nursing facilities
  • General or speciality hospitals
  • Psychiatric hospitals
  • Physicians’ offices
