Joining Olivet's faculty in 2009, Dr. Thompson teaches the pedagogy courses for the physical education majors including some sport management courses and supervises student teachers. He also directs the physical education program and serves as one of the department's teacher education representatives.
His doctoral dissertation was a study of the relationship between the number of years of high school physical education that students received and the physical activity habits of traditional college freshmen.
Before coming to Olivet, he taught physical education at Stone Church Christian Academy in Palos Heights, Illinois, for five years; and physical education and health at Elwood Grade School in Elwood, Illinois, for seven years. He also coached basketball for 12 years and served as an athletic director for nine years.
He is a member of the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE America); the Illinois Alliance for Physical Education, Health, Recreation, and Dance; the Christian Society for Kinesiology and Leisure Studies; and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Dr. Thompson and his wife, Dawn, have three daughters, Emilee, Leah and Sydney. He enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, being outdoors and watching basketball.
