
Mission
Connections, a transition program for Olivet freshmen, is committed to helping freshmen integrate knowledge, desire, and skill and develop habits for academic, social and spiritual success. The Connections seminar is based on principles that are universal, timeless, independent of the individual, changeless and able to produce predictable outcomes.
Course Description
The Connections seminar is a required freshman seminar designed to introduce freshmen to university learning and to facilitate academic advising. Topics will help students connect to academic advisors, campus resources for success, and develop student success strategies as defined through the Covey Habits curriculum.
Learning Objectives
Students in the freshman Connections seminar will understand and value the connection between effort and success and develop their abilities to:
- embrace effective paradigms
- move up on the maturity continuum
- value diversity
- be proactive
- become interdependent
- make intelligent informed choices
- understand academic advising
- sharpen planning skills
- prioritize tasks
- resolve conflicts
- renew physical, social, mental and spiritual energies
