A variety of supplemental services are provided for students who qualify. Many of these programs involve a variety of offices across campus.
The Learning Development Center: Math and English labs, supplemental instruction, peer and faculty tutoring are available to those who qualify.
Disabilities: Students with documented disabilities are eligible for reasonable accommodations including tutors, note-takers and extended time on exams.
Essentials of Learning: The Essentials of Learning Program is provided to students admitted to the University under conditions that make formal training in study skills and learning strategies necessary.
Summer Advising: Freshmen receive extensive training on the curricular process, registration, dropping or adding courses, etc., through summer orientation. Thereafter, each student is assigned to a faculty advisor for ongoing counsel. In fact, students may not register for a semester’s classes until their advisor authorizes it. This ensures a minimum of semester-by-semester review of eachstudent’s progress.
Jump Start and Freshman Seminar: First-time Freshmen (not transfers) receive a two-day workshop prior to the launch of their first semester designed to strengthen their capacity to begin college well. Then, all first time Freshmen take a one-credit course through the Department of General Studies the fall of their first semester to further develop academic success strategies and to develop their four-year academic plan.
