The new Student Life and Recreation Center, set for completion in December 2012, is designed to strengthen the sense of community among students, as well as augment the thriving intramural and intercollegiate athletic programs.
It is estimated to measure 168,000 square feet — roughly two-and-a-half times the size of Ludwig Student Center.
Features will include:
- Eight-lane, 200 meter running track with Mondo surface
- Two pools, including a 10-lane competition pool with a constant depth of 2 meters
- Four-story rock climbing wall
- Four basketball courts
- Workout facilities
- Large game area
- Spacious central lounge where students can gather for recreation or study
- Several classrooms
Tiger Sports
The Student Life and Recreation Center will also offer new enhancements and opportunities for Tiger Athletics.
Track and Field
Olivet will be among the few colleges in the state of Illinois with an eight-lane, 200-meter indoor track, and its Mondo surface is the same as that which will be used for the 2012 Olympics. Because of the Center, the Tigers will begin hosting indoor track competitions for the first time in ONU history in the winter of 2012.
Swimming
With a 10-lane competition swim pool, varsity men’s and women’s swimming will be added to the list of Olivet’s intercollegiate programs. Recruitment of 20 male and 20 female swimmers will begin in fall 2011, with competition set to begin in fall 2012.
