Dear Friends:

As a child working in the cotton field, I had no idea what God had planned for me. I could never have imagined how God could change me and direct my life.

I have experienced personal encounters with Christ in tough circumstances that have made me mature as a believer, and I have come to love the Scriptures as I have studied and taught them in many settings. Many years ago, God impressed on my heart the following verses:

This is what I have asked of God for you: that you will be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love, and that you will have the rich experience of knowing Christ and real certainty and clear understanding. For God’s secret plan, now at last made known, is Christ Himself. In Him lie hidden all the mighty, untapped treasures of wisdom and knowledge. — Colossians 2:2–3 (NIV)

At Olivet Nazarene University, we believe that God has a plan for each of our adult learners. It’s the reason classes are taught from a Christian perspective, and why our faculty and staff pray for our students.

It’s also why Connexions, the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies’ ministry program, exists. We believe in addressing the needs of the whole person, not just the mind. As chaplain for the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies, I consider it a privilege to see God’s purpose unfold in the lives of our adult learners, sharing in their joys and trials, and encouraging them along life’s journey.
