HONR 100 — Exploring Humanity through Film. 3 hours.

As the first semester offering in the honors curriculum, this course introduces students to interdisciplinary learning through an overarchng four-semester theme with a chosen topic for each semester's course. In this particular course, the theme of "What Does It Mean to be Human?" is addressed through the topic of film. During the course of the semester, students will view films, read stories, have discussions on both of those topics, as well as topics from wellness and Christian formation, and do activities that will provide theory and content in the four courses from which this interdisciplinary course is drawn. This course, along with the other three core honors courses, substitutes for COMM 105, ENGL 209/210, PHED 190, and THEO 101.

HONR 150 — Human Disciplines. 3 hours.

The second course in the honors curriculum continues an interdisciplinary approach to the four general education components through the overarching four-semester theme of "What Does It Mean to be Human?" with a focus on discipline. Besides addressing five major areas of discipline within an individual's life--physical, emotional intellectual, spiritual, and social--the course also introduces students to the disciplines necessary to succeed in their chosen major fields. During the course of the semester, students create their own goals and begin to work to achieve those goals in the five areas, as well as research their individual fields. This course, as do the three other core courses, draws theory and content from the four courses for which the core honors courses substitute: COMM 105, ENGL 209/210, PHED 190, and THEO 101.

HONR 250 — Advertising. 3 hours.

In this third segment of the overarching four-semester theme of what it means to be human, the question will be addressed through the topic of advertising. During the course of the semester students will study the advertising process, discuss interactions between other content areas and advertising, and do activities that will provide theory and content. This course, along with the other three core honors courses, substitutes for COMM 105, ENGL 209/210, PHED 190, and THEO 101.

HONR 260 — Technology. 3 hours.

In the ongoing dialog of what it means to be human, this course will examine today's technologically advanced world. We will explore the roots of various manifestations of technologies, we will examine the interactions we humans have with technology in the world today, and we will envision our future world as it continues to be impacted by technology. Inherent within this project is a critique of a world that has become less human as technology has become more powerful. The final outcome of the course should be an increasingly clear view of our humanity against a backdrop of technology. This course, along with the other three core honors courses, substitutes for COMM 105, ENGL 209/210, PHED 190, and THEO 101.
