Live Event Media Management

    Live events and entertainment involve much more than lights, camera and action. They require professionals who can expertly blend media behind the scenes to maximize impact. Media management prepares students for dynamic and exciting careers in a wide variety of live event settings.

  • If you aspire to work behind the scenes as a sound engineer, lighting designer, technical director or live camera operator, an Olivet communication degree will set you up for success. Use your talents to create live events that will impact the kingdom for Christ.

    Work behind the scenes by running cameras, lights and sound, or calling shots as a technical director for weekly chapels and numerous other live events and concert productions hosted in Olivet's Centennial Chapel. Develop solid skills to prepare you for the fast-paced world of live events. 

    Spend a semester in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Contemporary Music Center , earning credit toward your Olivet degree. Work in real-world settings with high-end gear via the technical track  providing production support for weekly live shows and engineering recording sessions.

    Benefit from the skills and knowledge of professors who are already successful in the professional world. 

    • Professor Mark Bishop has worked for TV networks as a producer and weather broadcaster in Chicago; Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska; and Rockford, Illinois.
    • Dr. Heather (Attig) McLaughlin is an award-winning video producer certified in Final Cut Pro 7 and Color. She is well-versed in Adobe products, CMS, and proficient in the operation of HD video and still cameras.
    • Professor Jerry Cohagan has performed in theatre productions and commercials nationwide.

    Live event media management is a concentration within Multimedia Communication.

    Careers

    • like to manage event logistics
    • can solve problems and think quickly then a career in live event media management may be waiting for you.

    Possible live event media management careers: A/V production manager, tour manager, producer, technical director, graphics operator, director sound engineer, camera operator, house engineer, production coordinator, stage manager, EVS operator, video technician, camera shader, audio assistant, broadcast engineer.

    Live Event Media Management is part of the Department of Communication  within the College of Arts and Sciences.
