Exercise and Sports Science

  • Teacher. Coach. Physical therapist. Is a career in exercise and sports science in your future? We are here to help you to become the Christian professional you want to be.

  • Teach physical education and health in the public schools. We give you that one-on-one attention, working closely with you to make sure you meet state and national standards for educators.

    Become a physical therapist or exercise physiologist. We prepare you well for the rigors of graduate school, certification and practice.

    Seeking a career as a certified athletic trainer? Our nationally recognized, certified program gives you practical experience with high school and college sports. Do rotations beginning in your sophomore year under the direction of one of our six certified athletic trainers.

    Combine your love of sports with the business side of the industry with a career in sport management. We provide you everything you need for success, including 20 hours of courses in business administration and a 12-hour required internship.

    Do you enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle and want to help others enjoy that, too? We will equip you for your goals in our recreation and leisure program. Become the leader and manager who will be an asset for any organization.

    We know that your Christian focus and mindset are important to you as you prepare for your career. We help you grow in your personal faith and integrate Christian ethics into everything we teach.

    Your studies will be grounded in wholeness and wellness. We teach from the perspective of the wellness wheel with the spiritual dimension at the hub. We teach and you learn from that perspective.

    Internships are a way to extend your learning experience as you approach the end of your degree program. Companies and organizations that have provided these opportunities for our students include:

    • Joliet Jackhammers (minor league baseball team)
    • YMCA
    • Chicago First Church of the Nazarene’s sport ministry
    • And many more!

    Exercise Science Club is led by students and designed to help students know more about their future in this career field. Find out more about what to expect on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).     Student Education Association (SEA) assists Olivet students as they prepare for careers in education.

    Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) brings coaches and athletes together to impact the world for Jesus Christ. Our local chapter is part of the largest Christian sports organization in America. Support, encouragement and service to fellow students form the name of this game.

    Alumni careers include: physical education teacher, assistant coach, head coach, sports media professional, athletic trainer, athletic director, professor, nuclear medicine technician, physical therapist

    Accreditation 

    Athletic Training Education program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

     Physical Education and Health Education Teaching programs are accredited by The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE).
