Master of Arts: Professional Counseling
Becky Taylor, Coordinator
Olivet Nazarene University’s Master of Arts: Professional Counseling program gives men and women the skills they need to be psychotherapists, marriage and family therapists, pastoral counselors, case managers, human resources specialists, consultants and a variety of other professionals. But most central to the program is a belief that these professions are first and foremost avenues of service.
We also know you lead a busy life. Our accelerated programs are tailored to your unique needs as an adult learner. Master of Arts: Professional Counseling classes meet one night per week, much of the coursework is completed in collaborative learning teams and an entering class stays together throughout the program, typically two years for academic preparation and one year for an internship. At the same time, our programs feature the academic rigor you would expect from a leading liberal arts university.
The Master of Arts: Professional Counseling program is designed to enable bachelor-level graduates to obtain a master’s degree in fulfillment of one of the requirements for the Clinical Professional Counselor license in the state of Illinois. In addition to academic requirements, applicants for a license must fulfill a professionally supervised internship lasting two full-time years and pass the National Counseling Examination of the National Board for Certified Counselors.
