Mathematics

Mathematics

Mathematics is the science of logical reasoning. It is more than just solving quantitative problems – although that is part of it; it’s also a way of thinking. Mathematics deals with making conjectures and proving theorems statements that can be deduced from starting assumptions.

Our culture’s commitment to mathematical precision is unquestioned. Technology is increasingly dependent on people with advanced mathematical and reasoning skills. Indeed, every discipline, if pursued at an advanced level, uses mathematics, and many disciplines require it at their most basic levels. Those capable of dealing with the rigors of mathematics are in high demand. Our alumni are working as actuaries, statisticians, teachers and professors, in business fields, and in Internet security applications such as code encryption and decryption.
