Writing
Available as a minor
Writing is important to all professions –– from education to ministry to business to the social services. With a few additional hours, students can opt to minor in writing, gaining valuable experience in how to communicate on paper.
The writing minor has two distinct focuses: business tech or creative writing. In each concentration, students will practice the craft of writing, as well as learn about writing and writers.
Students have the opportunity to work one-on-one with English faculty members and other professionals in the writing field. They can complete a 30-hour practicum experience as part of the business and tech class. Within the area, students have gained writing experience with local nonprofits, hospitals, city and park districts and corporations like Peddinghaus.
The students complete a one-credit course to put together a portfolio of polished work and submit it for publication, graduate school admission, and/or to potential employers.
Alumni with this minor are working in editing or publishing, freelance writing, communication jobs, journalism, business/marketing/finance jobs, political fields, and ministry.
Writing is part of the
Department of English and Modern Languages within the
